Make Music Australia

In 2018, the Australian Music Association founded Australia’s first nationwide Make Music Day celebration! Each year they aim to develop an events program created by a community of music makers all over Australia. They also facilitate social media to build community awareness of the program and the opportunities provided for making music.

Reaching Audiences Across the Country

In 2018, Make Music Australia included 100 events at 80 locations on June 21, including major partnerships with the Sydney Opera House, AMEB, the New South Wales library system, and Community Music Victoria.

In 2019, Australia’s Live Music Office came on board as a national organizer, partnering with government bodies in every state and territory, schools and conservatories, music industry groups, music venues, radio stations, community groups, and others to promote the Make Music Day idea. Create NSW and Transport for NSW are activating the main concourse of the Central Station in Sydney with music for June 21, and the Sydney Opera House will livestream their Make Music Day performance “Music of the Oud: Joseph Tawadros with the Sydney Symphony.”

Make Music Australia is now working to progress the Make Music Day Australia program and build greater awareness of the initiative on a national level.
