Make Music

About

Welcome to the inaugural Make Music Charleston celebration! From being an incubator for Jazz to the birthplace of Opera in North America, Charleston has seen, heard and experienced a diverse musical culture.

Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is a global celebration that takes place on June 21st every year. Last year, over 1,000 cities in 120 countries around the world threw citywide music celebrations and we’re ready to add Charleston into the mix.

The COVID-19 pandemic has decimated musical performances in venues across the globe yet the importance of live music in our communities can’t be stressed more. So go grab your horn, your pitch pipe, your banjo or double bass, mind your social distancing and go make music!

Participate

Participation is encouraged from all ages, genres and abilities. If you don’t want to go out but still want to be a part of this worldwide celebration, you can stream your live performances over social media.

Want to go perform on your street corner or porch? Go ahead (just mind your social distancing). Want to offer free online music lessons for the day? Do it. Feel like humming the Hawaii Five-0 theme through a kazoo on your Instagram feed? More power to you.

Just make sure you tell your audiences about your Make Music Charleston plans and tag #MakeMusicCharleston in any/all social media announcements you might be making.

To register your event, fill out the google form here.
