MUSIC BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE
Sunday, June 21 2020
Make Music Fairfield is a live, free musical celebration on the summer solstice with free concerts all over town.
MMF will be going forward with a modest outdoor celebration urging all participants to practice safe social distancing. Due to the pandemic, we are restricting participation to smaller musical groups such as soloists, duos, and trios and small ensembles.
What is Make Music Fairfield?
Make Music Fairfield is an event for people who love music and the joyous sense of community that music can foster. It will be held at numerous locations in Fairfield every June 21 (the summer solstice). The next Make Music Fairfield celebration is on Sunday, June 21 2020
Make Music Fairfield is a call to participation: Music by the People, For the People.
It is an invitation to all musicians, amateur and professional, to perform on June 21. It is also an invitation to music-lovers to show up at the venues and enjoy all musical offerings, all day long.
Make Music Fairfield is a celebration of music of all genres played by and enjoyed by people of all stripes. From alternative to bluegrass to Classical and Zydeco, Fairfield wants to see it all! We will be joining over 725 cities around the world to celebrate Make Music Day – so help us make this day unforgettable as we kick off summer with music for all to enjoy!
Make Music Day Fairfield is an outgrowth of the Fete de la Musique, which originated in France in 1982. The event began as a call to musicians in Paris to get out in the streets on June 21 and play their music. It has since spread and has a large footprint, particularly in Europe and parts of Africa, but also in a handful of cities getting started in the U.S.
Thank you to the Connecticut State Office of the Arts for supporting this event!
Make Music Day 2020 is ON! These are wild times and it’s more important than ever for us to come together and bond over music. This year’s Make Music Day is a little different and we ask that performers perform solo or in small groups and concert participants wear their masks and practice social distancing.
Artists are encouraged to perform acoustically or bring their own amp and electric. We won’t be able to provide additional amps and equipment this year.
Just because we can’t come close doesn’t mean we can’t come together.
Grab your instruments and sign up to play music on June 21. Whether outside your home, or the street or at the beach, share your passion loud and proud.
Registration Is Now Open!
We invite musicians, rappers, and instrumentalists of all kinds to collaborate on making June 21 a musical masterpiece. Singers, church choirs, jazz combos, rock bands, glee clubs, MCs, marching bands, mariachis, and every other kind of musician, of any age group or skill level, are all welcome.
