Mass Appeal, part of Make Music Day, brings together thousands of musicians - of all levels and ages - to make music in large, single-instrument groups. The following free events, open to all, will take place on June 21, 2020.
Meet at the steps of the South Plaza in Union Square Park by 7pm to join our annual guitar group jam session. As always, walk-ups are welcome, but if you know you are coming, please send an email with the subject "I'm bringing my guitar to Union Square Park" to info@MakeMusicNY.org.
Featured guest instructor Ann Klein will kick off the hour by performing her own original music and then led the group play-along by sharing songwriting secrets and guitar technique tips that she has developed during her storied career. As a guitarist, Ann has performed as a featured soloist with Ani DiFranco and has written and/or recorded with artists including Kate Pierson (B-52s), Joan Osborne, Sherie Rene Scott, Laura Benanti and Todd Almond. She held the first guitar chair at the Broadway show “Head Over Heels” and the off-Broadway show “Superhero,” and additional credits include “Grease", "9 to 5", "Everyday Rapture", "Baby It's You", "Kinky Boots" and "Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet".
Free music booklets inspired by the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival are provided courtesy of Alfred Music.
