Mass Appeal, part of Make Music Day, brings together thousands of musicians - of all levels and ages - to make music in large, single-instrument groups. The following free events, open to all, will take place on June 21, 2018.
100 Hohner harmonicas will be gifted to new players and families at the 2nd Annual Andy Mackie Harmonica Blowout at 4:30pm (outside the Cotton Building, Pope Marine Park Plaza area). The event, named for renowned music educator and instigator Andy Mackie who held the Guiness World Book of Record honor of assembling the largest number of harmonicas on stage (at Northwest Folklife festival) and taught three generations of young musicians to make their own music, will start with a grand music lesson followed by a joyous jam. Last year’s event drew over 100 participants of all ages from a one-and-a-half year old girl to a grandmother in her 80’s (accompanied by her granddaughter, son, daughter in law, and care partner).
