About

Welcome to the inaugural year of Make Music Palm Beach County!

This year on June 21st Make Music Palm Beach County will bring communities together to celebrate their ability to make music, regardless of age, ability, or preferred musical style.

Unlike a typical music festival, Make Music Palm Beach County is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician—young, old, amateur, and professional— will share the music of all genres with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Based on the French Fête de la Musique, Make Music Palm Beach County joins 800 cities in 120 countries across the globe, making the Fête de la Musique the world’s largest single-day music festival. Make Music Palm Beach County is also a member of the Make Music Alliance, connecting Palm Beach County with over 60 other U.S. cities in celebrating this day of music.

With all the challenges we all are having this year we continue to be committed to creating a one of a kind experience and the music will continue! We are refining plans to bring our summer solstice music celebrations online.

So start planning now! It can be as simple as one person or a family singing or playing instruments online or on their front porch or as challenging as a group producing a zoom concert! …think creatively – virtually – musically!

We welcome ALL to join in on the celebration!

FAQ

GENERAL INFO

What is Make Music Palm Beach County (MMPBC)?

MMPBC is the Palm Beach County edition of Make Music Day – a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Palm Beach County is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — shares their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

When and where will Make Music Palm Beach County take place?

MMPBC will take place on Friday, June 21, 2020. Performances will take place online and at multiple locations based on their ability to create a safe environment around Palm Beach County. If you’d like to register as a venue or participant, head over to the registration site and create a profile:https://palmbeach.makemusicday.org

Why isn’t it always on a weekend?

MMPBC celebrates the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, with music. The Summer Solstice occurs on June 21st. June 21st doesn’t always land on a weekend. Think of it like Halloween. Halloween doesn’t always land on a weekend.

Who can participate?

MMPBC is performed by anyone, enjoyed by everyone – all over Palm Beach County. Students, amateurs, part-time professionals, and established artists are all welcome. There is no audition process to be included in the musical merriment and MMPBC is open to all ages, skill levels, and persuasions of music makers. All you need to do is sign up, make your match with a venue if you are collaborating, show up in person or online, and perform.

PERFORMER INFO

Where may I perform?

Once you register by creating a profile on (add registration link) you can create an online profile or browse through all of the Venue listings, find one that interests you and propose a performance to the Venue operator. Have a space or business you’d like to play that’s not listed? Contact them about hosting a virtual performance on their web or social media page and encourage them to list themselves as a venue on the registration site.

How long will each performance last?

That is up to you and/or your venue, if you partner with one. We don’t put any restrictions on you (or them)! Just be careful not to overbook yourself.

What if I or my band signs up now, and has to back out later?

Please thoroughly consider a performance opportunity before confirming it. If you sign up and cancel at the last minute, that means that a spot that could be utilized by another performer will go unused.

Are there restrictions on performances?

In some cases, yes when you work with a venue. Read the details of each venue closely before proposing a performance.

Is equipment or tech support provided?

MMPBC is not a typical music festival. It is a DIY opportunity for people to be creative about putting together their own musical events. The organizers set up the framework — the rest is up to you! Artists are doing their own thing this year virtually or if with a location, they are collaborating to produce the events.

Will there be a main place for all to see performances?

No, but there will be some that will be featured on makemusicday.org/palmbeachcounty and all are encouraged to share their performance on https://www.facebook.com/MakeMusicPBC and include the following hashtags: #makemusicpbc and #MMPBC.

Will I be paid to perform?

MMPBC is a countywide celebration of summer and part of an international movement. As is the case with other cities around the world, our contribution is setting up the framework for performances by coordinating the activities, publicizing the event county-wide with local media, an interactive website, and promoting recruitment of artists and venues.

Participation at any level, as a musician, host, or spectator is voluntary. This allows musicians of all skill levels the opportunity to come out and perform in public if they wish. While most performers volunteer their time and talents, both venues and musicians are welcome to seek outside sponsorship and support if they so choose.

Can I charge admission?

No. All MMPBC concerts are free and open to the public.

Can I have my event indoors?

Yes. We encourage artists and venues to take into consideration their Palm Beach County guidelines regarding Covid-19 as well as the CDC guidelines. We want a safe environment for all participating – artists, venues, audiences. Many are hosting, and some are preparing and releasing virtual live performances on June 21st. It’s up to you!
