Make Music Day Cambridge – June 21, 2025
A Global Celebration of Music For Everyone
Make Music Day is a worldwide celebration held every June 21 where anyone can play and everyone can watch. Born in France in 1982 as “Fête de la Musique,” this free community event has spread to over 1,000 cities in 120 countries. Now Cambridge joins the movement, bringing together musicians of all ages, cultures, genres, and skill levels to create music throughout our community.
How Does It Work?
Simple Three-Step Process:
- Register on the Make Music Cambridge website to create your account
- Then, Sign up as either a music performer or a host location
- Our matchmaking system connects you based on shared preferences
Everyone participates for free – no auditions, no experience required, and no rules. Just the joy of making music together!
You Choose:
- Your musical genre (anything goes!)
- Your preferred location (public spaces, businesses, or private venues)
- Your available time on June 21
- Then get matched and finalize details directly!

ABSOLUTELY ANYONE! We welcome:
- Rock bands and rappers
- Bluegrass enthusiasts and jazz performers
- Marching bands and orchestras
- Young musicians and seasoned professionals
- Singer-songwriters and kazoo masters
- Complete beginners and music students
- And everyone in between!

- Indicate what genres you prefer
- Choose your location type
- Select times that work for you We’ll connect you with amazing local talent that matches your preferences!

Who Can Participate?
Musicians
- All styles, ages, and experience levels are welcome!
- Perform one set or schedule multiple shows across different venues
- Register to play at existing venues or create your own event
Venues
- Gardens, boats, bars, porches, restaurants, or any outdoor space
- Indoor spaces open to the public without a purchase requirement (coffee shops, boutiques, etc.)
- Located in the Village of Cambridge or one of our neighboring communities
- Must be free to attend and accessible to everyone
- Maintain a 6′ clearance on sidewalks for pedestrians
Music Educators
- Offer guitar or piano lessons
- Schedule a kids dance party
- Host any music-related educational activity
- Register your venue and schedule your own event
Online Participants
- Post tutorials or performances on social media
- Host a virtual concert
- Use #MakeMusicCambridge so we can share your posts
- Send us information to get your show on the official schedule
Important Dates
- Venue Registration Opens: April 10th, 2025 at 10:00 AM
- Performer Registration Begins: April 10th, 2025 at 10:00 AM
- Matchmaking Begins: May 2nd, 2025
- Registration Closes: June 17th, 2025
- Matchmaking Closes: June 20th, 2025
How Matchmaking Works
Our matchmaking system connects musicians with venues. After creating an account and registering as either a performer or venue:
- Venues can browse musician profiles and vice versa
- Participants can send and respond to booking requests
- Direct messages can be exchanged through the system
Matchmaking Tips
- Don’t be shy! Send requests and book as many shows as you want
- Respond promptly to requests
- Follow up using the messaging system, phone, or email
- Nearly everyone who wants to participate will find a match
Using Village Parks
- Small, informal performances (like a few friends playing violins) require no permits
- For larger events, please contact Cambridge Village Hall to obtain a permit
