Notos Clarinet Collective

Notos consists of four classically trained clarinetists committed to providing high quality music to communities that traditionally have lacked access to classical music. Our sound is big and passionate, while at the same time capable of exquisite subtlety and nuance. We play because music is what we love most and what we do best, and we are committed to making classical music meaningful and accessible to all. We named ourselves Notos after the ancient god of the south wind. Notos was tempestuous and powerful; he shook up the sea and brought storms. As a group of people underrepresented in classical music, we are here to shake things up and breathe new life into Chicago’s chamber music scene. We take inspiration from naming ourselves for a god from Africa: Notos—like most of us—was from the south. The Notos of the ancient world was a “shouting” god, a “stirring” god. He had something to say. We do too.
