About

Durban Join the worldwide celebration of music on June 21!
Make Music is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. And this year Over The Walls Together Foundation with Make Music Day is bringing this pop up virtual music event to Durban!

What is Music Day Durban

Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

We are truly the epitome of Mandela’s Rainbow Nation. Many artists in the entertainment industry were terribly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdowns. Nearly half of South Africa’s live music workers may quit the industry for good

This was a concern for us as there are so many talented artists in our country that rely on the income they generate from their work. When we spoke with Matt to host a Make Music Day Durban, we saw this as a positive initiative to give back to the music industry and let the musicians know that we care and are supportive. Our non profit organization Over The Walls Together creates music videos to amplify and increase awareness of social injustices that affects us. Our current campaigns are on youth development and gender based violence. To find out more about what we do please visit www.overthewallstogether.org
