Sean Kauāakeakua Segundo

Raised in Makawao, Maui, Sean Kauāakeakua “Kauā” Segundo is an up-and-coming Hawaiian musician with his use of the ʻukulele. Kauā started learning to play the ʻukulele at age 6, and starting singing with the Kamehameha Schools choir at age 10, and joined musical theater at age 16. Being uninspired to sing and play music, he left music until 2019, where the Kū Kiaʻi Mauna and the Hawaiian Language Revitalization movements brought him new inspiration and a purpose to learn ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and to rejuvenate music in his life through the Hawaiian medium. With his focus on making Hawaiian language and its beautiful music known, he started to post Hawaiian music content through TikTok. Influenced by the amazing musicians, Kahauanu Lake Trio, Keauhou, Kealiʻi Reichel, and Cody Pueo Pata, Kauā intertwines ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi through the use of traditional Hawaiian chant, oratory, poetry, and contemporary Hawaiian music, and he aspires to weave in other musical stylings into Hawaiian music.
