Val Blaha

Val Blaha is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. An accomplished child pianist, she studied piano for 3 years at UC Santa Barbara before earning undergrad and graduate degrees in anthropology. She began teaching private music lessons in 2001, and returned to performing in 2006, playing washtub bass in a Portland-based country ragtime blues band. After several years in a local cover band, she turned her focus to writing and performing her own music, and has released several studio albums, working with musicians including Tony Furtado, Tim Connell, Tim Ellis, Rob Stroup, Jamie Hill and Shannon Curtis, and garnering airplay on independent folk radio stations in the US and abroad. Val's heart lies with melody-driven Americana and folk music, and in the spirit of influences like Bob Dylan and Nanci Griffith, her lyrics often included pointed social commentary.
