1000 Drums Crying for Peace
Percussionist Andre E. Small of Afrikumba Utibé Drummers will bring the entire East Harlem community to vibrant life with an historic participatory performance experience: 1,000 Drums Crying for Peace. Drummers of all backgrounds, styles, ages and skill levels are invited and encouraged to take part and to take to the streets with a powerful message spoken through the rhythms our most ancient form of communication: put down the guns, put aside the violence, and pick up a drum. The majority of performances will take place from Marcus Garvey Park, including special showcases which will be presented from the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater. Additional performances are planned for the Uptown Grand Central Plaza and in front of local businesses and cultural organizations all along E 125th Street.
