Masayo Ishigure and MIYABI koto shamisen Ensemble

This special program is presented in partnership with the Consulate General of Japan. Japanese music, set to a soaring world of flapping wings! Koto shamisen music, passed on for centuries in Japan, is loved the world over and certainly appreciated by New Yorkers. Ever evolving, this program explores its musical possibilities for the generations of players and listeners to come. Set one is ensemble music composed in Japan, building on traditional melodies. Set two is a small ensemble performance that demonstrates the flexibility of the koto and shamisen in a wonderful fusion with Western instruments.
