Calum Pasqua and NYC’s Celtic Music Community

A collection of Celtic musicians in the NYC session scene is a unique experience to listen to and observe. A session, or ‘seisun’, is a meeting of musicians who are passionate about playing the music of Ireland and Scotland. Typical instruments one would see at sessions are fiddles, banjos, flutes and accordions. Tunes are shared from one player to the next, three tunes threaded together is considered a set. Through this process, each musician can both share and learn tunes in the same evening. NYC has a thriving session life and community. Each night of the week, Celtic music can be found and enjoyed at many pubs throughout the boroughs.
