Make Music New Zealand

About

Make Music New Zealand debuts June 21, 2024!

Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now held on the same day every year in more than 1000 cities around the globe. We envision neighbours re-connecting, synergistic collaborations, and an abundance of joy. Make Music Day is presented in Aotearoa New Zealand for the first time this year by Auckland City of Music.

Participation is encouraged from all ages, genres and abilities, from indie rock to classical to taonga puoro, from enthusiastic amateurs to professional artists and everything in between.

We believe that music has the power to unite neighborhoods, amplify voices, bridge cultures and unleash everyone’s innate creativity. We invite music enthusiasts from everywhere to participate by performing, attending or volunteering. Join us to celebrate music as part of an international event with its heart and soul in our local communities!

Make Music Day Events can happen in conventional and unconventional spaces. From retail and hospitality premises to community centres, public spaces, or even your front porch! Any musician – amateur or professional, young or old – is invited to take part. Likewise, businesses, councils, neighbours, schools, churches, and organisations of all shapes and sizes can sign up to offer their spaces as a venue.  All of Aotearoa is encouraged to participate, reconnect with neighbours & communities and dive into your creativity.
