Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra
2 - 3pm - "Paint the Music - kids". Children of all ages are welcome to paint along to the music performed by these talented WCYO students. Paint packs will be available for purchase at Sonoma Art on Main Street before and on the day of this event, or participants are free to bring their own supplies. 3-5pm Youth musicians from the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra will perform "In C", a quintessential and enormously influential piece written by American composer, Terry Riley. As one of the first truly minimalistic pieces, the work consists of 53 musical phrases, which each individual musician chooses how many times to play before moving on. The piece is therefore indeterminate in length, lasting between 15 minutes to several hours, and can also be performed with any number of players and on any instrument, making each performance unique.
