HISTORY OF MAKE MUSIC DAY
It all started 42 years ago in France. In 1982, Jack Lang dreamed up an idea for a new kind of musical holiday. His team imagined a day where free music would be everywhere, around each city in street corners, parks, rooftops, gardens, store fronts and more. Unlike a typical music festival, everyone is invited to join in and play music. His dream came true and the event has turned into a true WORLDWIDE holiday that takes place on the summer solstice, June 21, and winter solstice on December 21st.
Today, thousands of musicians – amateurs and professionals, and people of all ages perform in hundreds of free, outdoor concerts. In 2014, Make Music organizers from across North America founded the Make Music Alliance, who helps support cities all over the world, including Salado in their music making endeavors.
HOW DID THE INTERNATIONAL EVENT COME TO SALADO?
The Salado Music Friendly Community Board joined the Make Music Alliance with aspirations to create music together as a community. We feel music is an integral part of the arts that brings people together in a beautiful and uplifting way. Not only does live music event forge new friendships, but it also helps grow the economic development of Salado Texas.
