Tim Avilla

Tim Avilla is a musician with split personality. He can’t seem to decide whether he is a songwriting troubadour or a swinging jazz singer. Tim explains that he’s decided not to decide. He says, “It depends on my mood and upcoming events. I just try to have fun and, hopefully, entertain the listener.” No mater what style he performs, Tim has a sound that’s his alone. Influenced by the likes of Paul Simon, and Lennon/McCartney, his original songs run from contemplative to bluesy. His repertoire also includes his own interpretation familiar songs. Tim adds, “Maybe that’s an influence from jazz. Jazz players take an 80 year-old and make it sound fresh.” Tim’s guitar playing features finger picking, partial capos, and alternative tuning. Tim often plays harmonica solos during acoustic guitar songs. When singing jazz standards, Tim leans more toward the bluesy Ray Charles and Al Jarreau, rather than Sinatra or Bublé.
