Make Music Springfield MO

Ring in the summer with a worldwide day of music! On June 21, celebrate Make Music Springfield MO on streets, sidewalks, and parks across the city, with music performed by anyone and free for everyone.

About

Make Music Day is a global celebration of music that originated 41 years ago in France. Conceived by Jack Lang and the Ministry of Culture, this unique holiday envisions a day filled with free music performances across cities, from street corners to parks, rooftops, and beyond. Unlike traditional music festivals, Make Music Day invites everyone to participate, whether they’re musicians performing or hosts providing spaces for music.

The event takes place on the summer solstice, June 21, and is known as Fête De La Musique, which translates to both “festival of music” and “make music” in French. Over the years, it has become a national holiday in France, with millions of people playing instruments or singing in public and millions more attending performances.

The concept crossed the Atlantic 15 years ago with Make Music New York, a grassroots initiative that quickly gained popularity. Today, Make Music Day is celebrated in over 1,000 cities across 120 countries, including over 100 U.S. cities. It has become a platform for musicians of all backgrounds to share their talents and connect with their communities.

In cities like Springfield, Make Music Day is facilitated by local organizations and volunteers who organize free concerts and events in public spaces. These celebrations aim to unite communities, promote artistic expression, and create memorable experiences for participants and audiences alike.
