About
Make Music Wilmington is a free, citywide day of music. Held every June 21, Make Music Day is a celebration that occurs in 1,000+ cities across the globe.
Our inaugural celebration in 2024 will be anchored at the Harrelson Center, 20 N. 4th St., and its event venue, Plaza on Princess, at 4th and Princess Streets, and will include two sound stages and an Inspiration Station. Programming will run from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Participation is encouraged from all ages, genres and abilities, from indie rock to bluegrass to a cappella, from music students to professional artists and everything in between.
Make Music Wilmington’s primary goals are to provide an equal platform for musicians of all skill levels, interests and walks of life and to inspire the next generation of musicians through innovative outreach programming.

Where did the idea come from?
Make Music began in France as Fête de la Musique, a national musical holiday inaugurated in 1982. Ever since, the festival has become an international phenomenon, celebrated on the same day in more than 120 countries, including Australia, Brazil, China, Italy, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom. The name Make Music comes from the French Fête (or Faites) de la musique, which means both “festival of music” and “make music!”
Who can participate?
Anyone and everyone. Amateurs, part-time professionals, and established artists are all welcome.
Make Music cities use a “matchmaking” platform that allows you to register your own concert, or to collaborate on a Make Music event with local musicians and venues that fit your tastes.
